Manganese plays a key role in the formation of chloroplasts and plant enzyme systems. The application of this fertilizer improves photosynthesis and increases crop production. Therefore, manganese sulfate is one of the widely used materials in fertilizer production and the agricultural industry.
High pH levels of alkaline soils, low organic matter, and unbalanced fertilizer applications are factors that limit the availability of manganese to plants and cause irreparable damage to the quantity and quality of production. Symptoms and effects of this nutrient deficiency are observed in most parts of Iran and in many crops. The use of chemical fertilizers containing this element, particularly combined with organic matter, sulfur, and the relevant bacteria, improves the nutritional conditions of plants and resolves many nutritional deficiencies. Manganese sulfate, with the chemical formula MnSO4.H2O, contains 24% manganese and is produced in powdered form, packaged in 25-kilogram bags.
Method, Timing, and Amount of Application:
This fertilizer can be applied through deep placement (localized chalk application and band application) and foliar spraying. In light soils, it can also be applied with irrigation water, but under these conditions, the recovery rate will be lower.
- Trees: In winter, apply 200 to 300 grams per fruit-bearing tree in the middle of the canopy, along with animal manure and sulfur, either as a chalk application or in a fertilization channel.
- Field Crops: When preparing the seedbed, mix with winter fertilizers at a rate of 50 to 80 kilograms per hectare incorporated into the soil.
Foliar Spraying:
For fruit trees, it is sprayed at a rate of 3 to 4 grams per liter, and for field crops, it is applied at a rate of 2 to 3 grams per liter.
Plants and Areas of Use:
Manganese deficiency has been reported in alkaline soils with high pH levels, especially in light-textured areas across most parts of Iran. The application of manganese-containing fertilizers in these regions will gradually resolve the symptoms of deficiency and increase chlorophyll content, photosynthesis, and overall yield.
Technical Notes:
- The application of this fertilizer every 1 to 2 years prevents deficiencies of this element.
- Mixing this fertilizer with animal manure, especially within the active root zone, enhances the effectiveness of manganese sulfate.
